[an error occurred while processing this directive] Those Trapped Between It
by Grace Jones

To be able to camouflage
In a black and white world

Seems only apparent
To those trapped between it

Although fingers point, both black and white
You're safe for now, for this fight
It's a free ride

Like superheroes, you have advantages
The best of each and the faults of them combined

In the war we are in
You are always on the winning side

But this seems only apparent
To those trapped between it

We are the gray area
Between moral dilemmas and freedom of choice

Caught between "Niggas"
And high heels and blonde curls

To be more black than Africans
And more white than Caucasians

Mark more than one ethnic box
Because we have none of our own

This seems only apparent
To those trapped between it

Nevertheless, neither side will listen
Nor claim us in their clan

We are the mutt no one can figure out
Or the consequences some can do without

A whole new generation of racism emerges
As they submerge us
Into a new type of subversion

Still we grow strong
Some are hearing our song

But this seems only apparent
To those trapped between it
