[an error occurred while processing this directive] Shoplifting at Frames
by Colette Hunt, Adjunct Professor and Pre-Service Teacher

Woman enters Frames--glides into aisle one
casually strolls-perhaps in step with your muted footstep
feeling your cold eyes on her back--violent like a silent rape
She shivers in her black skin aware of her perspiration of indignation
She does not like this game
she hides
you seek and destroy
She picks up an item and reads the label
you watch
behind pairs of reflectors
she disappears
and watches with haughty satisfaction
fresh fingerprints outline dusty imprints
a label dangles by its cut strings
in large bold prints
reads "Foster Grant" $29.99
a nod from you prompts the question
would you mind opening your bag?
inside
you find a paid receipt for the wrapped gift
outside
woman pushes her Foster Grants up her aristocratic nose
with sure-footed strides
glides behind the wheel of the tinted windows of
her black Predator
Pity you didn't have her in mind
While you were busy watching my every move
the pale-faced one was robbing you blind
