[an error occurred while processing this directive] Defending My Profanity, er...Humanity
by Kecia C. Brown, poet, teacher, and activist

I curse sometimes, you know.
Every once in a while
the word shit falls from my lips.
And I mean it, too!
Yes, I am educated
and believe in the Holy Trinity
and I still curse sometimes.
I feel that in my years on this planet
I have encountered far more profane things
that have desecrated what is sacred.
There are more blasphemous issues
than a couple of curse words:
Reverse Discrimination, “Civil Union,”
Call the shit what it is...MARRIAGE!
Republican, Democrat, Conservative,
Liberal, Propositions 187 and 209,
Founding Fathers, Bell Curve, Clarence Thomas,
College Entrance Exams, Presidential Election,
“God Bless America” (what abut the rest of His people?),
Legacy, Governmental Spending, KKK, CIA, FBI…
they can KMA (Kiss My Ass)!
They have done nothing but dishonor
what should be revered...Community.
These Government Agency's profane
gestures (Hell yeah, I see the KKK
as an agent of the Government)
come in the form of murder, drug trafficking and…
murder.
I believe misogyny is far more profane
than the word Bitch.
The word did not create the oppression-
the action of hate did.
Oppression, Hate, Fear
are worse than Damn, Shit or Fuck.
Yet, we spend millions of dollars
and endless hours
telling some Rap Artist that their lyrics
are creating a climate of hate.
Please, the temperature was already set
before the song was sung!
So, I don't apologize for cussin' sometimes.
It is simply another thread woven
into the American Fabric.
