I Am Not Hungry
by Karisma Rodriguez, 20, UCLA English major

I am not hungry
But I want food
I was hoping somehow
I could have my stomach fooled

I am needy
But I will not brood
I hear that is how
The oppression ensues

I have been thirsty
For your kind of knowledge, now
It would be considerate
If you could spare me a sip, somehow

I am not stupid
In my culture, we call it "cool"
But I will outwit you
Do not be fooled

Cause I can talk your talk
And I can walk your walk
Oh yeah!
I'd just rather not
Cause, (laughs)
It looks kind of funny from here

But if you need to see it
I will stand on your podium
And call you on your shit
I will approach your bench
And bitch, and bitch, and bitch
I will make you see it

I will show you what you are
And you can criticize me
But you won't get very far
Cause we do it to ourselves
In our familias
We've been preparing for your war.
