[an error occurred while processing this directive] My World
by Kerry Edwards

This poem is dedicated to my sister Kate because we are "best sisters."

I live in a separate world,
My thoughts and feelings are my own,
Locked up in my fragile body,
Lost, bewildered all alone.

I try to move my body,
But it just shakes and jerks,
However hard I try,
It doesnt seem to work.

Sometimes I get laughed at,
By onlookers in the street,
Others try not to notice,
And stare down at their feet.

I sometimes get called names,
Which hurt me deep inside,
But because my feelings cant be shown,
It doesnt mean Im blind.

I can see the look on others,
As I pass them by,
The faces they pull, the looks they give,
How Id love to cry.

Id love to show my feelings,
And show just how I felt,
To let out my built up emotion,
My frozen tears would melt.

I may be unable to control my moves,
And have to use a wheel chair,
You may see my life as one hard struggle,
But thats no reason to stare.

So next time you see me,
Come be my friend,
Theres no need to hide,
No need to pretend.

You never know, I could have been you,
I could have been your sister,
But I am not, I am me,
Communicate and you will see.

You can be born with what I have,
Or become ill then be impaired,
So never take life for granted,
It is just you have been spared.

Some people think they understand,
Others pretend they do,
But no one really knows,
Not unless its you.
