Ms. Ebony
by Monique Nicole Fox of Silver Spring, Maryland

Having the color of soot or coal
Having the power to achieve my goal
Having the identity, body, and soul
Having the color of hard dark wood

Having the color of ebony
Having the knowledge to get a degree
Having such hue is ecstasy

Having the characteristics of brown to black pigmentation
Having a strong black heritage and relation
Having pride and so much elation

Having dignity and substance
Having an opportunity and chance
Having a graceful stride and prance
I thank god and dance
