How Should I Be
My name is Tiffany Bagwell. I am fifteen years old. I am multiracial and this poem is about the way I feel about the way I should act or should be because of each one of my races. I think a lot of other biracial and multiracial children feel the way I do.

How should I be
There are so many cultures in me
Should I be a proud African Princess Teen
Or should I dance to the mambo like a Latin queen
Maybe I'll go crazy over boy bands like some Caucasian girls do
How should I be? Who am I? Who?

Should I listen to Spanish music like Cecilia B.
Hanging out my widow yelling' "Hey Papi"
Should I listen to DMX and Hip-Hop
Or Maybe I should put on my radio and listen to Pop
Can someone tell me what should I do
How should I be? Who am I? Who?

Should I sit with the black girls at their table today
Or should I be with the Ricans gossiping a.k.a. chinche
Maybe with the white girls is where I should sit
Or Maybe with all for a little bit
Can someone tell me where I should sit
How should I be? Should I just call myself an it?

What should I do with this identity crisis that I'm in
Either way I go I don't think I can win
On test when they ask "What race are you?"
I say to myself "I need that question answered too"
Someone please tell me what I should do
How should I be? Who am I? Who?
