A note from Emily: My name is Emily Ballew. I am biracial, half Caucasian and half African-American. I wrote this poem after a morning at church where I was just overcome with the power of the music. I wanted to express my thoughts so I wrote them down. I was really glad to find this website because some of the poem really touched me, especially the one entitled How I Should Be, by Tiffany Bagwell.
Loud powerful music Jingle jangle of the tambourine Rattle and thump of the drum Clang-clang of the piano Clap clapping of the hands The voices of the people
African spirituals, passed down from generation to generation, sung by everyone. From the respected elders down on to the young children. The music fills everyone?s soul and explodes upwards and outwards into the sweet air. young or old, male or female, black or white, No matter, just let the music in your body
Music is a hypnotizing force that moves you in indescribable ways.
Songs contain so much history- history of who we are, where we came from, how we got here, and how we?re gonna get back home.
Time changes a lot of things, But not the effect music can have on you
Music is a very powerful force of nature- Especially on church Sunday.
